HOW TO LIVE BETTER IN THE VALAIS |
Openness and hospitality |
French-speaking Switzerland, which for the longest time was regarded as being protection-ist, closed or difficult of access to investors, is today developing economic and cultural prin-ciples designed to attract those same investors and policies which almost relegate to sec-ondary importance the tax advantages which made its reputation. Following the bilateral agreements signed with the European Community, the Canton of Valais seems now to have become one of the French-speaking cantons most open to association and the establishment of French companies. The significant improvement in road, rail and air communications has helped open up this territory famous for its quality of life and its many ski slopes. In the past Valais was the unavoidable route for the Roman and Napoleonic armies, and it has now become known as a hospitable place in the heart of Europe without having lost anything of the charms and advantages inherent to it.
