Art and culture for all

For nearly a quarter century (inaugurated on 19 Nov 1978), the Pierre-Gianadda Foundation has been bringing culture to the masses. Permanent exhibitions such as those of the Louis and Evelyn Franck collection, temporary retrospectives of world quality devoted to painters as different as Gauguin, Van Gogh, Picasso, Kandinsky, Egon Schiele or Nicolas de Staël, an annual appointment with Leonardo da Vinci, the Inventor (at the Old Arsenal), concerts … there is always something going on in this exceptional place.

HISTORY

Before devoting this place to a foundation as a tribute to his brother, Pierre, who tragically went missing following an air crash, Léonard Gianadda wanted to put a building there. The discovery of the remains of a Gallo-Roman temple and the death of his younger brother prompted him to change his plans.
So it was that a splendid arts centre came into being, surrounded by gardens where the patron of the arts made the most of these vestiges of the Roman thermal baths and an enclosing wall belonging to a vast sacred enclosure of Antiquity.
